7 Minute Workout

By May 2, 2017 January 4th, 2018 No Comments

Last fall I ended up way out of shape. The 7 minute workout app was both proof of how out of shape I actually was and help getting back at it!

Backstory: I’ve worked out and kept myself somewhat physically fit ever since I started running cross country in middle school.  Running (if you want to call it that, I’m slow, like really slow) was my main source of physical activity.  I’d never gotten myself into crazy awesome shape.  Oh, the intent was there.  More than once I thought, I’m going to run and do sit ups until I have smokin’ abs.  Then I wouldn’t.  On the other hand I had never really “let myself go.”

Over the last five or six years I slowly but surely gained control over my eating habits.  I completely changed up the way I looked at food, eating and nutrition.  In doing this, I noticed the need to use exercise to control my weight pretty much went away.  As I got busier with my kids I started slipping up on getting my work outs in. First, for days at a time, then weeks. I hate to admit for several months in a row I worked out only a handful of days.  Eventually I was noticing.  While my clothes fit and I was not gaining weight, I had lost muscle. My energy level dwindled. So it was time. I had to get back at it!

In comes the 7 Minute Workout.

I think I stumbled across the app through a Facebook add. Honestly, I thought it was going to be a joke.  It cycles through 10 exercises, each of them lasting 30 seconds with a 15 second break between.  At first I was thinking: seriously a 15 second break, who needs a break after 30 seconds?  And then I did squat jumps and frog jumps.  That’s the point I decided this is for real, THANK GOD, for that 15 second break! My legs were feeling it!

Guys, this app is for you too. My husband and I do it together after we put the kids to bed.  No big time commitment, 7 minutes is all it takes!

The app is a free download.  So yes, there’s an  occasional add.  They aren’t bothersome, just close them out and get right to your workout (they never pop up in the middle of a circuit). There is a calendar that tracks the days you’ve completed the workout.  Best, you can set a reminder to alert you “it’s time to work out.” Change the circuit. Get demonstrations of the workout moves.

While I thought the workout would be easy, I learned it was no joke.  The “7 Minute Workout” app is a great way to get a quick workout in when you are short on time. Remember, doing something is always better than nothing. Plus, the reminder and calendar keep you honest.

Now I’ve gotten myself back into pretty good darn good shape. This app was helpful as a starting point and currently on days when I have little time!
